The bond market is the cornerstone of the capital market and the core financial infrastructure of national economic operation. The government-bond yield curve is the pricing anchor of global financial assets—it is both the benchmark of the risk-free interest rate and the hub on which monetary-policy transmission, fiscal financing, and risk management depend. Corporate and municipal bonds directly channel long-term capital to the real economy and infrastructure, connecting savings with investment and supporting growth and employment. A bond market that is deep, broad, and stable is a key yardstick of a country's financial maturity and comprehensive national strength.
This index starts from underlying public data and constructs a "Scale + Quality + Innovation + Contribution" four-dimensional weighted model to evaluate 20 major bond markets worldwide. The Scale dimension examines bond-market stock; the Quality dimension integrates sovereign credit quality and yield stability; the Innovation dimension measures the development level of green and sustainable bonds; and the Contribution dimension focuses on the bond market's financing-support function for the real economy and infrastructure. The model does not simply rank by scale; instead, it makes "scale, credit quality, green innovation, and real-economy contribution" balance one another, seeking to depict a bond market's comprehensive strength of being "large, stable, innovative, and useful".
Evaluation results: the United States, China, Japan, Germany, and France rank in the top five. Overall, developed markets with large stock, sound credit, and green innovation rank highest, while emerging markets with considerable scale but weaker credit, higher volatility, and lagging sustainable bonds rank lower. This ranking is based mainly on public data from international institutions and national authorities, supplemented by approximate values from public knowledge, marked "subject to official sources", permanently free and public, and provided for research and reference only.
