A brand is an enterprise's intangible asset and, more importantly, a micro projection of national competitiveness. The strength of a country ultimately manifests in a group of brands with global influence that can sustainably create value and win public trust. Brand value (Brand Equity / Brand Value) is the monetized measure of this intangible asset—it encompasses both the brand's financial contribution and its recognition, trust, and loyalty in the minds of consumers.
Modern brand theory provides a clear definitional lineage for "brand value": David Aaker proposed the "Brand Equity Five-Star Model", decomposing brand equity into brand loyalty, brand awareness, perceived quality, brand associations, and other proprietary assets; Kevin Keller proposed the "Customer-Based Brand Equity (CBBE)" model, emphasizing that brand value originates from brand knowledge in the customer's cognitive structure; and authoritative institutions such as the World Brand Lab, Kantar BrandZ, and Interbrand have turned it into comparable monetary valuations—the World Brand Lab evaluates by "brand financial value + brand added value", BrandZ measures by "financial value × brand contribution", and Interbrand discounts by "brand earnings × brand strength".
This index synthesizes the above frameworks and constructs a weighted-sum model from four indicators—brand value, brand influence, industry standing, and revenue scale—to evaluate about fifty of China's most valuable brands. The model assigns the highest weight to brand value (the core measure of intangible assets), supplemented by influence (recognition and reputation), industry standing (competitive barriers and pricing power), and revenue scale (the financial base), striving to balance "monetary valuation" and "market strength" and objectively depict the full picture of brand value.
